What is Bader?
Bader is the principal information management system for the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAF Air Cadets) which is accessible by all members of the organisation and permanent HQ staff. As a parent, it is important for you to know that your child has access to Cadet Portal which is part of the Bader suite.
What is Cadet Portal?
Cadet Portal is the only Ministry of Defence (MoD)/Royal Air Force (RAF) approved and accredited tool for sharing information with cadets outside of the Ultilearn e-learning platform for the RAF Air Cadets.
The website is secure and has been through robust security and penetration testing by the MoD and RAF and is compliant with the Data Protection Act (2018) and the EU GDPR requirements.
It connects directly to the centralised Squadron Management System which contains all of your cadets data including awards, achievements and attendance at the unit and events. Cadet Portal accesses this central database and displays information to the cadet.

How is my child’s data protected?
We take the protection of cadet and parent/guardian data incredibly seriously. Cadet Portal, along with all of the Bader suite of applications, are authorised and accredited by the Royal Air Force and the Ministry of Defence and is operated in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act (2018) and EU General Data Protection Regulations (EU GDPR).
Where is my child’s data stored?
All of your child's data is held on the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Joint Server Farm (JSF).
How do I raise a complaint?
The RAF Air Cadets external complaints procedure establishes how external complaints are managed in the RAF Air Cadets.
Completed complaint forms (available in the external complaints procedure) can be emailed to RAFAC-HQ-Complaints@mod.gov.uk or in hard-copy to the postal address in the procedure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to do anything to create a Cadet Portal account for my child?
When your child joins the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, you will provide the necessary information (such as your child's email address and mobile number) on the RAF Air Cadets 3822A Consent Form.
As soon as the local unit adult volunteer staff input this data into the Cadet Forces Management Information System, your cadets Cadet Portal account will be automatically generated and a welcome email including the login details sent to the email address you have specified. Emails will come from firstname.lastname@example.org from the Gov.UK Notify email service which the HM Government service provided to the RAF Air Cadets for sending emails to cadets.
Is Cadet Portal secure?
Yes, Cadet Portal has been developed using the latest technology and Microsoft provides all of the security and authentication for Cadet Portal which is industry-leading.
Cadet Portal and the wider Bader suite of applications are subject to regular penetration testing by the RAF's 90 Signals Unit who undertake all of the security testing of RAF IT systems.
Do I need to consent to my cadet's data being stored on Cadet Portal?
No. When your cadet joined the RAF Air Cadets, you consented to your cadet's data being added to the Bader computer system for official purposes.
All of your cadets data is treated in line with the statutory requirements of the Data Protection Act (2018) which includes the EU General Data Protection Regulation requirements.
Do parents/guardians/carers have access to Cadet Portal?
No. Cadet Portal is an accredited MoD/RAF computer system and parent/guardian/carer access is not available currently. If this changes, we will let you know.
We are working on providing alternative ways of communicating what events and activities are available to your child now.
How does my cadet reset their password?
Cadets will be able self-service their own password through the login screen at https://cadets.bader.mod.uk.
When a reset is requested, they will be asked to authenticate to another form of communication such as their mobile, email address or landline telephone number listed on their central cadet record held on the Bader Squadron Management System. They will be sent a code which they enter into the reset screen when prompted and then they can login with their new password.
My cadet's data is not up to date on Cadet Portal - what should I do?
Cadet Portal connects directly to your cadets centralised record held on the Bader Squadron Management System. If the data displayed in Cadet Portal is incorrect, the local unit adult volunteer staff should be informed so that it can be updated and any changes will automatically be displayed in Cadet Portal.
Will my cadet's Cadet Portal account be closed if they leave or are suspended?
Yes. If a cadet is subject to disciplinary action or leaves the RAF Air Cadets, their Cadet Portal account will be deleted. If they re-join the RAF Air Cadets, their Cadet Portal account will be recreated.
Can my cadet see other cadets information?
No. The cadet only sees their own data and information and not other people's and vice-versa.
I don't want my cadet to have an email address - will this prevent them from accessing Cadet Portal?
Yes. We need to store the cadet's email address on their centralised record so we can use it for password recovery purposes. A parent/guardian's email address can be used if required but password reset emails will be sent to it for the cadet.
What if the unit does not provide information to cadets through Cadet Portal?
You should speak to your unit's Officer Commanding or Officer in Charge in the first instance to raise your concerns.
If you are dissatisfied with their response, you should contact your Wing's Executive Officer who can provide you with additional advice and guidance.

You should contact your Officer Commanding or Officer in Charge in the first instance if you have further questions or queries. They will then communicate with the Cadet Portal developers to seek answers to your questions.
